Thermostatic Valves which are also referred to as TRVs control the flow of hot water into a radiator. Their heat sensors measure room temperature and adjust the flow of water accordingly to regulate heat output and achieve the desired room climate.
By self-regulating, these nifty valves can improve energy efficiency and consumption. Their capacity to ensure rooms are not heated to excess ultimately helps to reduce heating bills. That being said, if you have invested in TRVs, it is important to use them correctly to be certain those savings are made. By periodically checking the central heating is balanced and in working order you can be sure you are getting the most out of these clever devices.
There are however certain settings where these valves are not appropriate:
If rooms have an existing wall thermostat, the two can act in opposition with each other.
If rooms encounter steam and humidity TRV sensors can shut down. For this reason they are not particularly well suited to bathrooms or wetrooms.
Thermostatic valves are available in both angled and straight formats and in all manner of designs to complement interiors.
